Interlaken Ost, or East, is one of two train stations in the Swiss resort town of Interlaken. Sitting at the junction of three different major railway lines, this station forms an important part of the Swiss public transit network and also provides links to other countries, notably Germany.
Interlaken was a very popular resort town back in the 19th century just as it is today, and this station was first opened in 1874, two years after its sister station of Interlaken West. Originally, the station was the end of the line and was intended to allow passengers to board steamships on the lakes for further travel. However, over the years, the rail network expanded, eventually reaching Bern and making this station more important.
