Why use Docklands luggage storage?
Tucked away between the Yarra River waterfront and the Melbourne City Loop, the Docklands are one of the most vital cultural areas of the city. This new development replaced the former industrial infrastructure along the water with premium retail spaces that are so much more than just a mall. This open-air facility features highly local retail offerings alongside some of the best dining and entertainment you'll find in Melbourne.
Taking a stroll along the docks is the best way to catch epic views of the city while also admiring the beautiful waterfront. Marvel Stadium is hard to miss, especially when there's a concert or match happening. You'll be able to enjoy Docklands right before you head to the stadium to catch an Australian Rules Football (you'll have to Google the rules) or cricket match along with major concerts.
You certainly won’t go hungry, as Docklands has plenty of restaurants reflecting the highly diverse restaurant scene of Melbourne. From Vietnamese food and Aussie meat pies to third-wave coffee, you'll have actual Melbourne restaurants to choose from. If you worked up a thirst while shopping, you’ll have Melbourne’s top brewery serving up hoppy IPAs and refreshing lagers. The Urban Alley Taproom has ample seating with views of the water that are perfect for capping off a successful day of shopping.
Docklands are easy to reach right when you get into town, so finding a place to store your heavy luggage will allow you to explore right when you arrive. If you need luggage storage near Docklands, Bounce has convenient locations nearby to lighten the load before you head out to shop or enjoy a meal.
Getting to Docklands
The Docklands are in one of the best locations in all of Melbourne, being adjacent to the City Loop where public transportation is easy to find. You'll be able to reach long-distance transportation hubs like Southern Cross Station and Flinders Street Station either on foot or by tram. You'll also be able to walk or bike from most parts of the city to Docklands if you wish to embrace the healthy lifestyle of locals.
Docklands by train
Southern Cross Station is situated just east of Docklands and provides inner rail connections throughout the state of Victoria. If you're from out of town or mostly planning on exploring the city center, these connections won't be much use. You can still hop on the #70 or #86 trams to get you to Melbourne CBD.
Taking the tram to Docklands
Yarra Trams are the primary public transportation method serving Melbourne, and a number of routes call directly on Docklands. This is located within what’s called the “Free Tram Zone” where fares are free, making this the most affordable way to get around.
- #70: Flinders Street Station (15 minutes), Melbourne Cricket Ground (25 minutes), Brighton Beach (60 minutes)
- #86: Melbourne Museum (29 minutes), Fitzroy Gardens (25 minutes)
- #75: National Gallery of Victoria (23 minutes)
Biking through Docklands
Australia is one of the greenest (as in eco-friendly) countries on the planet, so don't be surprised to find locals pedaling their way around Melbourne. This includes getting to Docklands, and you can rent a bike through plenty of free services or use the Trek Bikes bike-share network to zoom around the waterfront where you can dock right at Docklands.
Getting to Docklands from the airport
It takes less than 40 minutes to reach Docklands from Melbourne Airport via the T3 Skybus. This will run from the airport to Skybus Coach Terminal in the eastern part of the City Loop and is less than a five-minute walk to Docklands.
