Crufts is where man's best friend takes the spotlight! Come and observe fantastic displays, shows, and endless canine charm!
This show was founded in 1891 by Charles Cruft, a businessman and dog lover who worked for a dog biscuit company. He was passionate about promoting purebred dogs and organized the first dog show, Cruft's Dog Show. The event moved to Birmingham in 1991 and is now held at the NEC (National Exhibition Centre). Since then, the show has grown in size and significance, attracting international attention.
Crufts is organized by the Kennel Club and is often called the world’s greatest dog show. Over 20,000 dogs participate in various competitions, and around 160,000 visitors attend the show! More than 200 different dog breeds are presented at Crufts, including rare and exotic breeds like the Azawakh, Chinese Crested, and the Tibetan Mastiff. The largest dog breed to compete at Crufts is typically the Great Dane, some of which can weigh over 150 pounds! Conversely, one of the smallest breeds is the Chihuahua.
Fun fact! The first dog to win Best in Show at Crufts was a Skye Terrier named Ch. Mr. Jinks in 1928. This set the stage for many future legendary dogs!
Members of the British royal family have often attended the event. Queen Elizabeth II and her family have attended several times, and Princess Michael of Kent is the event's patron.
Join us at Crufts from 6 to 9 March at the NEC!
This special show offers many exciting things to watch!
One of the main attractions of Crufts is the breed judging competitions. You’ll see over 200 dog breeds being judged by experts, from the most popular breeds like Labrador Retrievers to rare and exotic breeds! The highly anticipated Best in Show competition occurs at each day's end. The winners compete for the ultimate world-class title after various group rounds.
There are exciting live demonstrations of dogs showing their agility and obedience skills. These events are thrilling to watch as dogs race through obstacle courses, perform complex tricks, and follow commands under time pressure. Flyball is a fast-paced relay race where teams of dogs jump over hurdles, fetch a tennis ball, and race back.
Dog dancing, also known as canine freestyle, involves performing choreographed routines set to music. It's one of the more entertaining and creative parts of the show!
Crufts is a huge marketplace for everything dog-related. Hundreds of stalls will sell exciting new products, such as dog food, toys, grooming tools, clothing, collars, leads, and accessories.
Expect cool spring weather, with average highs around 9.5°C (49°F) and lows of about 2.3°C (36°F). Rain is expected, so don't forget your umbrella!
Buy your tickets as soon as they're available. Tickets range from £14-£25 when purchased in advance, and from £17-£29 if bought at the door. Children under 8 can enter for free!
