The Lake County Fair began in 1921 as a poultry show and aimed to entertain and educate the residents from the outset. One Greek immigrant, James E. Strates, played an important role in shaping the carnival and fair industry in the United States. He immigrated to the U.S. from Greece and established Strates Shows in 1923. Since then, this family-owned carnival company has provided rides, games, and midway attractions for fairs nationwide, including the Lake Country Fair.

As the event expanded, it preserved its entertainment and educational features while creating a space for county residents to present and compete with their crafts, cooking, baking, and livestock skills on a local stage.

• The fairgrounds are conveniently located off US Highway 441, easily reachable from nearby towns and cities. Free and paid parking is available on-site or nearby during the fair. If you're coming from Orlando (about 35 miles away), take FL-429 to US-441 N, then follow the signs to the fairgrounds.
