How to get from Lisbon Airport to the City

Lisbon Airport is situated about four miles out of the city center and all the hotels and desirable travel areas. Taxis and rideshare are readily available and will get you to the city center within 35-40 minutes even with traffic. Train connections from LIS to the City Center

There are no long-distance or commuter rail routes at the airport. However, you can take the Red Line on the Lisbon metro to Gare do Oriente for connections to cities all over Portugal and Europe. The ride takes about 10 minutes. 

Metro Lines from LIS to the City Center

Lisbon Airport’s metro station is a direct route to the city center through its Red Line. It can be conveniently boarded from all terminals. 

• Red Line: This well-connected metro line will get you to downtown Lisbon in just over 20 minutes. Because it's the go-to method for reaching the airport, it’s sometimes referred to as the 'Aeroporto – Saldanha' line. 

Bus Terminal from LIS to the City Center

There are plenty of local buses and coach services connecting the airport with the city center. It should be noted that most of these bus services actually have a baggage limit. Only items smaller than 20” x 15” x 7.5” are allowed on these local buses. The Airport Shuttle and Aerobus fortunately don't have these limitations.

• Terravision Bus: This is the most reliable bus route for international travelers looking to reach the city center. It offers a comfortable ride, but at $20 per trip, it's one of the more expensive transit methods. 
• Aerobus 1: This bus heads to the Entrecampos, Cais do Sodré, and Rossio areas of Lisbon and is primarily used by local commuters. 
• City Bus: The #705, #722, #744, and #783 bus routes stop at the airport, connecting it with various parts of the city. 

Points of interest

• Lisbon Oceanarium: To get to the city’s top attraction, simply take the Red Line directly from the airport to São Sebastião station and walk towards the waterfront. The trip takes about 25 minutes. 
• Praça do Comércio: Lisbon’s central square is reachable from the airport in about 40 minutes via the Red Line with a transfer to the Green Line at São Sebastião Station. 
• Parque Eduardo VII: The Red Line runs directly from the airport (30-minute trip) to this leafy oasis overlooking the rest of the city.
