About Rome Airport

Where to start? The Eternal City is one of the most renowned travel destinations in the world. The seven hills of this ancient metropolis are dotted with some of the most recognizable landmarks anywhere. The Colosseum, Vatican, Piazza Navona, and the Trevi Fountain may seem like obvious places to visit, but their popularity and cultural importance, speak for themselves.

Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport is the main international airport serving Rome and the busiest airport in Italy. It's a sprawling hub where you'll find all the amenities you could expect including car rental services, public transportation connections, and other features for business travelers and frequent flyers. Fittingly, there’s also above-average food at Rome’s airport.

Fiumicino Airport is situated far outside the city center and does take some logistical planning if you want to sightsee on a layover. Convenient luggage storage services like Bounce are especially useful for these situations.

How to store luggage at Rome Airport

  • You can use the Bounce app or website to search for locations and book luggage storage online.
  • Once you book, you’ll receive a QR confirmation code you can use for quick and cashless check-in.
  • Payment is made ahead of time through Bounce’s secure system, so you won’t have to worry about cash or coins at any point in the process.
  • Picking up the bags is simple, as all you’ll have to do is show your QR code to the attendant. These are also used to ensure only you can access your belongings.

How to get from Rome Fiumicino Airport to the city

Fiumicino Airport is situated far outside the city center but has bus and train routes that will swiftly get you to the city. They’re much less expensive than a $60 cab ride and will take less time as they pass Rome’s famously congested traffic.

Train connections from FCO to the City Center

Fiumicino Aeroporto Stazione is a dedicated train station connecting the airport with various points in Rome and other cities in Italy.

  • Leonardo Express Train: This is one of the quickest ways to get to Termini Station at 30 minutes door-to-door.
  • Frecciarossa Line: This high-speed line has routes all the way from the airport to Naples, but it stops at Rome's Termini Station (25 minutes).
  • FL1 Line: This regional commuter line runs to Nomentana, Tiburtina, Tuscolana, Ostiense, and Trastevere Stations in the city center. You can transfer to various metro lines.

Metro lines from FCO to Rome's city center

The Rome Metro doesn't directly serve the airport, but travelers and commuters needing to transfer to various lines can do so via bus or train connection.

Bus terminal from FCO to the City Center

The Autostrada A91 highway provides a direct connection to the airport from various points in Rome, including numerous coach and bus routes.

  • Terravision shuttle: This runs to Roma Termini from Fiumicino Airport in about an hour to 90 minutes.
  • Schiaffini bus connection: This will get you to various stops in the city center, including Roma Termini, in 90 minutes.
  • Sit Bus shuttle: Connects the airport with Roma Termini and Piazza Cavour (90 minutes with traffic).
  • COTRAL Night Bus: This night service runs to Roma Termini and Roma Tiburtina stations, with the full trip taking only an hour.

Points of interest

  • Vatican City: If you’re trying to hit the Vatican on a travel day, your best bet is to invest in a dedicated shuttle service running directly to Piazza Pia, outside the gates. A ride costs as little as $8 and usually takes 50 minutes.
  • Colosseum: It takes 45 minutes to reach this legendary landmark via the Frecciarossa Train, with a transfer to the B1 Subway at Roma Termini. The Colosseum will have its own metro stop, so you can’t miss it!
  • Trevi Fountain: You’ll reach this bustling stretch of central Rome in just under an hour by taking the Frecciarossa Train to Roma Termini and transferring to the Metro A Line and getting off at the nearby Barberini stop.

Leave your bags anywhere in Rome after you've touched down at Rome Airport

Rome is one of those cities where you can spend a month and still have dozens of things you want to get to. This makes planning and mobility all the more important, so don’t let your bags slow you down! Italy’s largest and busiest airport doesn't have reliable luggage lockers or similar amenities, making a dedicated service more useful.

Our Rome Airport luggage storage locations are generally available between 9 AM and 8 PM, with extended hours possible at some spots in the city. And at the end of the day, it's nice to have real people watching your stuff.

The best Rome Airport luggage storage options are operated through Bounce. You can find luggage storage facilities through the Bounce mobile app either near the airport or throughout Rome, so you’ll be covered by convenient left luggage locations staffed by helpful locals!
