The name "Grüne Woche" (Green Week) came from the exhibition's focus on agriculture, horticulture, and forestry—industries associated with the color green. This event, officially known as Internationale Grüne Woche Berlin, was founded in 1926 during Berlin's 'Golden Twenties.' 

Over the years, it has become a global celebration of the food industry, farming, and sustainability. After a pause during World War II, it returned in 1948, helping rebuild Germany’s agricultural sector and eventually gaining international fame. Today, it attracts exhibitors and visitors from over 70 countries, presenting everything from advanced agrarian technology to diverse global cuisines.

Grüne Woche offers something for everyone, from food lovers and families to professionals in the agriculture industry.

The Green Week has eight theme worlds, each presenting something different and interesting. Some of them are Event Farm, Garden, House, and Yard, Streetfood, and Green Up Your Life.

You'll get to sample delicious cuisine from over 70 countries at the pavilions that offer traditional and modern dishes. And that's not all! During the ten event days, you can attend the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture, the leading international conference on the problems for the future of the global agriculture and food industry. This conference will be held from 15 to 18 January, and its motto is 'Shaping a sustainable bioeconomy.'

You can explore the latest trends in farming technology, organic agriculture, renewable energy, and sustainable practices. Get valuable insights on the workshops and live demos. Learn about the current social issues, like circular economy, sustainable land use, and renewable resources. You can also participate in cooking classes, gardening tips, and live demonstrations of food preparation or agricultural equipment.

There will be many forums, panel discussions, and talks on global food security, climate-smart agriculture, and the future of farming.

During the International Green Week, the weather will be freezing, with temperatures ranging from approximately -1.8 C to 2.8 C (29 F to 37 F). Dress warmly with layered clothing and weather-appropriate outerwear, as Berlin winters often include overcast skies and occasional frost or light snow!

How to Get To or From the Event

Here's how you can get to or from the Messe Berlin:

• S-Bahn (Suburban Train): Take the S3, S5, S7, or S9 lines to the Messe Süd (Eichkamp) station next to the event entrance.
• U-Bahn (Underground Train): Use the U2 line to the Kaiserdamm station. From there, it’s a short walk to the venue.
• Bus: Berlin buses X34, M49, and 104 stop near the exhibition center.
• Car: Messe Berlin is located near the A100 motorway (Berlin Ring). Use exit Messedamm Süd for direct access. The venue has a parking lot where you can leave your car for a fee.

Grüne Woche 2025 Bag Policy

There are cloakrooms at the entrances where you can leave your jacket or baggage for a fee. The price for the wardrobe is EUR 3,00 and for luggage EUR 6,00.

Although there are no restrictions on the backpack size, remember that all bags and backpacks will be searched at the entrance.
