Portland Rose Festival 2025

No matter what you engage in at the Rose Festival, ensure you pause to cherish the roses!

Portland, often called the City of Roses or Rose City, enjoys perfect weather for rose cultivation and boasts numerous public gardens highlighting this.

The Rose City has honored its excellence through the Portland Rose Festival for over a century. Officially designated Portland's festival in 2010, this celebration features over 60 events from late May to mid-June, including parades, carnival rides, art shows, fun runs, and more.

This flowery event, inspired by the grand floral festivals of Europe, was founded in 1907 to show Portland's beauty and prosperity. Over the years, it has become a multi-week extravaganza featuring the Grand Floral Parade, the illuminated Starlight Parade, and the lively CityFair carnival. Another important event is Fleet Week, when naval ships dock along the Willamette River, a tradition dating back to World War I.

Great crowds will gather from May 23 to June 7 to celebrate Portland's history and community spirit. Make your way to Portland, Oregon!

What to Expect When Attending Portland Rose Festival 2025

The Portland Rose Festival kicks off with a spectacular Opening Night & Fireworks Show on May 23. The fireworks will light up the sky around 9:45 p.m. To enjoy stunning views, take a ride on the Ferris wheel at CityFair, a festival that unfolds over three weekends at Waterfront Park in downtown Portland. CityFair offers carnival rides, delicious food and beer, live music, and a featured performer known to ignite the party.

On May 31, get ready for one of the biggest highlights: the Starlight Parade, a dazzling nighttime procession featuring illuminated floats, marching bands, and costumed performers.

The Hollywood District will host the Fred Meyer Junior Parade on June 4. This parade is so much fun! Children across Portland participate by wearing costumes, converting wagons into floats, embellishing bikes with colorful flowers, or simply parading alongside friends and family.

The Grand Floral Parade is the grandest of all the upcoming events at the festival! It takes place on June 7, starting at 10 am. For two miles, Portlanders and visitors will follow a path that leads through Portland's east-side city streets.

Every year, high schools around the Portland metro area come together to select a Rose Festival Court. Each princess proudly represents her school and her community. These amazing young women engage in volunteer activities, public speaking events, and festival happenings while competing for the title of Rose Festival Queen. Once crowned, the Rose Festival Queen joyfully steps into her role as an ambassador for the festival and the city of Portland.

Accurate weather forecasts for the event aren't available yet, but historical data provides insights.
Late May typically experiences temperatures of 6 C to 19 C (42.8 F to 66.2 F) and about 6 rainy days. June averages 9 C to 22 C (48.2 F to 71.6 F) with roughly four rainy days. You should prepare for mild to warm weather with occasional rain. It's advisable to dress in layers and bring a lightweight rain jacket or umbrella for unexpected showers!

Tickets

Many festival highlights, such as the Starlight Parade, beautiful views of the Grand Floral Parade in select areas, and exciting Fleet Week ship tours, are completely free to enjoy! Just remember that some events and attractions, like the CityFair (the waterfront carnival), reserved seating for the parade, and certain concerts or unique experiences, require a ticket for entry. Check the official website and purchase your ticket(s) when they're on sale.

Security Protocols

Expect bag checks at ticketed events like CityFair and reserved parade areas. Prohibited items include weapons, alcohol (unless purchased on-site), large coolers, and drones. Law enforcement and event staff will assist with safety and crowd control at major parades and waterfront events. For Fleet Week, be prepared for extra security screenings before boarding naval vessel ships. The best way to have a smooth experience? Pack light, follow posted guidelines, and report anything unusual to event staff. Enjoy the festival worry-free!
