The expert picks for the best beaches near Barcelona

Whether you’re looking for a party atmosphere at a beachfront club, a relaxing afternoon sunbathing on the fine golden sand, or exciting water sports like snorkeling and windsurfing, we’ve compiled the best beaches near Barcelona. Let's take a look at what the scenic Catalan coast has to offer.

El Morer Beach

Catch a bus or a train for an hour's trip to Sant Pol de Mar, a tourist town with old fishermen’s houses and holiday cottages covering the hills. A short walk from the town center lies the serene El Morer Beach, where you can swim in the clear blue water and sunbathe on the golden sand. The water is calm and warm, perfect for all ages.

El Morer Beach can be quiet, but in summer, you’ll see boats and beach towels around the shore. It’s a stone’s throw from the heart of the town, so you’ll be close to bars and restaurants. You can spend your day at the beach and explore the area in the evening. Just store your swim gear and other items at a convenient Bounce location first and free yourself up for sightseeing.

Sitges

Partygoers, beach lovers, and outdoor enthusiasts are sure to have a wonderful time on one of the beautiful beaches in the resort town of Sitges. It’s less than an hour’s train trip from Barcelona, so you can easily add it to your itinerary. Sitges was once a small fishing village and a port town but is now one of the country’s best beach destinations, and it’s easy to see why.

Stiges is both dog and family-friendly and has tiny coves and even a nudist beach. If you want to visit several beaches, store your stuff at a central location and carry only essentials to each beach.

Start from Les Botigues Beach, a large beach area with a beach bar, sunbeds, restaurants, and calm waters. For those who want to bring their furry friends, Riera de Vallcarca Beach will be a great experience. If you’re on a holiday with your family, you’ll love Aiguadolç Beach. It’s a short walk from the town center and is a great place for kayaking, surfing, and snorkeling. Whatever vibe you're going for or the activity you seek, there’s a perfect beach to satisfy your thirst for adventure in Stiges.

Cala Bona

You’ll feel one with nature in this secluded cove in Tossa de Mar. Cala Bona is off the beaten path, so public transport won’t take you straight to the beach. Pack only what's necessary for a beach day and leave the rest at a storage facility because you'll do a lot of walking to Cala Bona.

It’s a real workout to get here because even if you take more than an hour of bus and train rides, you’ll still have to walk about three kilometers to the cove. But once you arrive, you’ll be rewarded with a natural space with breathtaking views and captivating clear waters for swimming.

Unlike most of the closest beaches to Barcelona with fine golden sands, you’ll find a rocky shore in Cala Bona, so be sure to bring your water shoes. It has clean toilets and a bar that serves snacks and drinks.

The sun peeking through the tree on a hill in a quiet cove in Aiguablava

Located south of the beautiful town of Begur, Aiguablava is a place you shouldn’t miss when planning a day trip from Barcelona. Although there are no direct trains between the city and Begur, you can hop on a train to Flaçá in Girona for an hour and 30 minutes and get on a taxi to reach the beach.

Take a dip in the crystal-clear waters of Aiguablava surrounded by pine trees and take photos of its stunning natural setting. If you want to make it a weekend trip, Hotel Aigua Blava is just a 15-minute walk from the beach. Aiguablava is accessible for everyone and we highly recommend it for families with children.
