Soldier Field Bag Policy: Your Guide to the Rules

Soldier Field bag policy

It's always fun to watch a sports game in a different town or city, but few stadiums have the history that Solider Field in Chicago has. It was opened back in 1924, making it a unique gem. Sure the ultra-modern facilities are great, but at Soldier Stadium you just know there are so many stories, moments of excellence, and triumph within the walls.

But don't let its age fool you, the entire building had a huge remodel about 20 years ago. It offers the kind of amenities and features guests have come to expect at any NFL stadium.

Soldier Field is the home turf for the NFL's Chicago Bears. They moved into the stadium back in the 1970s and since then the stadium has branched out. Soldier Field now hosts Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire FC and frequently holds concerts. Some of the biggest names in the music industry have performed here including Metallica, The Rolling Stones, and Beyonce.

The stadium is conveniently nestled between Chicago’s bustling downtown “Loop” and the city’s lakefront. The expansive greenspace around the stadium also features museums, paths, and parks to enjoy. Nearby shopping, dining, attractions, and points of interest make it the ideal stop on any itinerary.

So what happens if you’re heading to the game from the airport or find yourself with a bag larger than Soldier Field’s bag policy allows? We have the perfect answer, and that's to store your luggage with us. But before we get too ahead of ourselves, let's take a look at the bag policy.

Soldier Field Bag Policy - Let's Cover the Details

The Soldier Field bag policy allows guests to bring bags that are clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC. Bags cannot be larger than 12” x 6” x 12”. Permitted bags that are clear can include clear backpacks, clear cinch bags, and clear fanny packs. No matter the bag, buckles, hardware, grommets, or any other décor can't conceal parts of it. If you'd rather, you can use a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag.

Additionally, non-clear bags that don't exceed 4.5” x 6.5” can be brought in with a clear plastic bag. Medical kits and medical bags are permitted but will be searched when entering the venue. Diaper bags are prohibited, so you'll need to use an approved clear bag with the diapers in it instead.

Some of the items that are considered prohibited items include briefcases, coolers, non-approved seat cushions, computer bags, luggage, and non-clear bags larger than 4.5” x 6.5”. If you require a specific item for medical reasons, it's best to speak to customer service before the event.

Additional Policies and Tips You'll Need to Know

Besides the bag policy, there are a few other rules you'll want to know about when you head to the stadium. Let's take a look.

Getting to Soldier Field

Chicago is a big bustling city, so driving to the stadium isn't always a great plan. It's easy enough to find, but parking lots tend to fill up fast and it can be very expensive on game and event days.

Rather than driving, we recommend using public transit. The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has a great system that has stops all over the city. The Roosevelt Station is near the stadium and it serves the Red, Orange, and Green lines. The station is about a 20-minute walk to Soldier Field. One thing to remember, even the trains fill up when there are Chicago Bears games, so it's always smart to give yourself extra time.

For those who may be staying in a downtown hotel, or doing a little shopping and dining downtown, you may be able to walk to the stadium. If not, you can opt for a taxi or rideshare pick-up.

Food and Beverage Policy

Fans are allowed a single bag that cannot exceed 12"x 6"x 12" and then fill it with food. You can use a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (such as a Ziploc bag or similar). No bottles or alcoholic beverages are allowed in the stadium.

There are concession stands in the stadium, but there's not a lot of variety. It's ideal for snacks and beverages, but if you want a meal it's probably best to eat before heading to the game.

Strollers

If you've got kids, just be aware that strollers aren't allowed into the stadium. You can check it at Gate 10 on the outside of the stadium.

Camera Policy

Cameras are allowed in, but the lenses cannot exceed 6" when fully extended. Tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, and other equipment can't be taken into the stadium.

Permitted Items

Banners, flags, and signs are permitted but they can't be offensive in any way. Foam fingers and other fun items are allowed, but they can't get in the way of other fans.

Prohibited Items

The list of prohibited items is pretty long, so we'll name a few of the most common.

  • Beach balls and balloons
  • Bottles, cans, and other beverage containers
  • Coolers, this includes soft-sided and hard-sided
  • Laser pens and pointers
  • Noisemakers
  • Umbrellas
  • Movie or video cameras
  • Smoking cigarettes, vaping, e-cigarettes, smokeless cigarettes, and chewing smokeless tobacco

Cashless Venue

Like other stadiums, Soldier Field’s concessions and merchandise have recently gone completely cashless. Credit cards, mobile payments, and online ordering have all been implemented and must be used according to Soldier Field policies.
