About Guggenheim Bilbao

How to get to Guggenheim Bilbao
Bilbao International Airport (LOIU) is 15km from the city center. The bus ride from the airport is about 20 minutes on the A3247 bus from Bizkaibus. There are various ways to pay for bus travel around the Bilbao area. You are usually going to get the best deal if you buy a barik card. You will pay 0.66 for this ride with the Barik card in hand.
Taxis can also be hired at the airport. You will need to expect to pay between $20 and $30 for this ride, which will take 15 minutes outside of rush hour. Rideshare options in the area vary in price.
Things to do near Guggenheim Bilbao
Visit Puppy
Located within short walking distance of the Guggenheim Museum (it's right outside), this cool puppy statue is comprised entirely of beautiful flowers and plants. It is a huge display of organic beauty and ideal for a photo op. While there is nothing else to do here, you will want to be sure to make time to check out this local landmark.
Funicular de Artxanda
The Funicular de Artxanda is the perfect thing to do if you want to check out the view from the top of Mount Artxanda. This is the most efficient and unique way to climb to the top of the peak. The cars on the funicular travel 2,500 feet in each direction. The first car is the perfect car to be in if you want to really appreciate the angle of climb on the funicular. Cars run every 15 minutes from 7:15 am until 10:00 pm, and there are extended hours in the summer.
Azkuna Zentroa Cultural Center
This cultural center is very impressive in and of itself, but you will probably want to visit to check out the Atrium of Cultures. In this atrium, the 43 pillars were crafted to represent a different culture or region. The display is meant to be inclusive of all cultures and people around the world, and the beauty of each piece is striking. You can spend a couple of hours here with ease, looking at all of the detailed and impressive pillars.
Casco Viejo
The old town area of the city used to be one of the major cultural centers in Spain. There is still a lot to see and do here, from street markets to cafes to fine dining opportunities. The old quarter has been limited to foot traffic only since the 1970s and you will be able to wander around in comfort, checking out the sites with ease. There are many sellers who have had shops in this part of the city for hundreds of years. La Turroneria Ivañez is just one of the many shops like this in the old town area, and you will be able to get nougat products here that haven't changed much since the shop opened in 1855.
Bizkaia Bridge
The oldest transporter bridge in the world, this UNESCO World Heritage site has been around since 1893. This is the first instance of a machine made to carry people and vehicles in a gondola on lightweight metal ropes. It is a very cool experience to use this mode of transit, and you will gain access to the suburb of Getxo and nearby Portugalete as well by using this conveyance.
