While the more centrally-located areas like Westminster and Soho have seen few developments in the past few decades, London’s outer neighborhoods are ever-changing with shifting communities and gentrification. Shoreditch is a primary example, as the East London neighborhood has gone from an afterthought to one of the cooler parts of the English capital.
Calling a neighborhood “up-and-coming” may be fraught and loaded with clichés, but Shoreditch’s transformation from afterthought to hipster hotspot makes it an ideal spot for travelers who want to take a break from museums and palaces.
Old Street Roundabout is probably the best place to start. You’ll find trendy boutiques, cafés serving third-wave coffee, and other signifiers of a hip neighborhood. The restaurant and street food scenes are as diverse as it gets, and Shoreditch is also home to some of London’s coolest bars.
Getting around is fairly simple, as you’ll be able to walk through most of the neighborhood while shopping or exploring Shoreditch's many pubs. If you need convenient luggage storage near Shoreditch, Bounce has locations where you can quickly drop the bags off to free your hands up for shopping or walking around.
Shoreditch is situated just east of Central London and is easily reached through public transportation or even a 30-minute stroll from the Thames Riverfront.
