The Miami Open, or Miami Masters, is an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event on the men's tour and a Premier Mandatory event on the women's tour. It was founded and first held in 1985, when Butch Buchholz, a former top tennis player, wanted to create something described as a ''Winter Wimbledon.''

The first tournament occurred in Delray Beach, Florida, in 1985 before moving to Boca Raton in 1986. In 1987, the event settled in Key Biscayne at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park. Finally, in 2019, the Miami Open moved to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens to accommodate larger crowds.

Many top-tier tennis players have competed at the Miami Masters, but a few stand out with the most wins. Serena Williams has the record for the most women’s singles titles with eight wins, while Novak Djokovic and Andre Agassi each hold six titles on the men’s side!

• Metrorail and Metrobus: Take the Metrorail to the Okeechobee Station, where you can connect to Metrobus routes 297 (27th Ave Orange) and 99. These routes stop within walking distance of Hard Rock Stadium.
• Tri-Rail: For visitors from Broward and Palm Beach counties, the Tri-Rail connects to the Miami Metrorail system at the Tri-Rail and Metrorail Transfer Station. From there, connect to a Metrobus line as above. Check the Miami-Dade Transit website for the schedule and the best route.

Remember that clear bags are required for entry into the stadium. A clear plastic bag no larger than 12” x 6” x 12” is permitted, along with a small, non-clear clutch bag (no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”).
