How to make the most of your layover in Houston
In Houston, a layover isn't just a layover, it's a full-blown adventure! It's known as Space City and home to NASA’s Johnson Space Center, so it's literally out of this world! But it’s not all rockets and astronauts, Houston is a mix of cultures, Tex-Mex flavors, and incredible art!
You can stroll through Sam Houston Park to see historic Texas, catch a live jazz set downtown, or snap photos at the San Jacinto Monument. And the food? Texas BBQ and tacos are everywhere! Houston’s friendly locals and fun attractions make it worth leaving the airport with your family. Just be ready for that Texas heat, and a big, welcoming vibe that says, "Y’all come back soon!"
Things to keep in mind before leaving the airport
If you've googled Houston airports, you've seen that 15 airports come up, that's a lot! Most of them are private or military, so the only ones people use are George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU). IAH is the main Houston airport and way more popular, so you'll probably be flying through that one. Here you’ll find everything you need to know about it, and if you can leave it and explore the city. So, keep reading for that key info!
Visa requirements in Houston
You might have heard about the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), it's a long list of rules and acceptions. Long story short, if you're traveling from these countries, you don't need a visa, just an ESTA. This system is super handy and keeps that pesky paperwork to a minimum! If you're not from a VWP country, you'll need to take the slower route and apply for a regular tourist visa at a US embassy. Good luck!
