About the airport

Kuwait may not be the first place that springs to mind when you think of a vacation destination. Usually, it's the promise of lucrative work in resource extraction and other fields that brings foreigners to the country - so much so, in fact, that 70% of Kuwait's population is made up of expatriates.

However, in recent years, this tiny nation has been embracing its potential as a tourist destination. After all, this is one of the world's wealthiest countries, and the possibilities for recreation here are almost limitless. Plus, it makes a great gateway to other small nations in the Middle East, so it's easy to add Kuwait to a trip to several different Gulf states to see what they have to offer.

In a country this small, everything has to do double duty, so it may not come as a surprise that Kuwait International Airport is also the primary headquarters of the Kuwait Air Force. Located 15 km or around 10 miles from the center of Kuwait City, the airport dates back to 1927, when it was used as a base for British planes on the way to India. These days, the airport boasts five terminals (although terminal two is still under construction) and receives over 15 million passengers every year.

Can we keep our luggage at the airport?

Kuwait City Airport offers luggage packaging and luggage delivery services, but perhaps strangely, there are no luggage storage facilities in the airport itself. However, just because there are no luggage lockers here doesn't mean you'll be stuck carrying heavy bags. Bounce partners with local shops, restaurants, and other businesses to make sure you always have a place to leave your things. Use our website or app to book luggage storage online at an affordable price, for anything from a few hours to an entire day.

Does Kuwait Airport have showers?

Despite its lack of luggage lockers, Kuwait Airport has almost everything else you need when it comes to air travel. That includes showers. Showers are located in the airport lounges, and if your plane ticket doesn't give you access to the lounges, it might be worth considering paying on the spot if you need to freshen up.

Taxi

Taking a taxi is the fastest way to get from Kuwait Airport to Kuwait City, typically taking around 15-20 minutes. Taxis are readily available outside the terminal. Taxi rides offer the convenience of direct transport to your destination without the need to navigate public transportation, but as is generally the case, they are one of the more expensive options for traveling between cities and airports.

Public buses offer an economical way to travel from Kuwait Airport to the city center. Bus number X3 can take you from the airport to the Kuwait Foundation for The Advancement of Science, right in the center of the city.
